Description

This course serves as part 5 of a 5 part training series designed to familarize the student with teh developements in the automobile industry related to occupant restraint systems and vehicle construction. Many differnt extrication techniques are emerging and changing, as rescuers become more aware of the dramatic improvements in vehicle design related to teh safety of the occupants. These programs will provide factual information that will educate the student regarding the location, identification, and managine of these components and safety systems.  

High Voltage Vehicle Battery Fire Awareness course is designed for rescuerers who will respond to emergency incidents involving electric vehicles. Information presented will help responders learn more about firefighting tactics specific to electric vehicles. The discussion will inlcude recommendations from vehicle manufacturers on post-crash fire management, cleanup, removal, and storage of electric vehicles previously involved in a fire or extrication incident. Much like the popularity of the hybrid electric vehicles that started in the early 2000's, this type of vehicle is rapidly becoming the sought-after method of powering vehicles by many consumers in today's market. In 2023 there were over 2 million electric cars in the U.S. This technology is here to stay. All manufacturers will continue introducing more designs in the coming years. There is a greater possibility of encountering this type of vehicle on roadway incidents.
